Wilderness Cruise - Juneau, AK to Juneau, AK
This itinerary is for the Wilderness Cruise
(Unless listed, each day’s meals include: Breakfast, lunch, cocktails, dinner)
Day 1 - Juneau, AK
Boarding Ship at 5:00pm-IVF Port by the Tram. (please note, there is no early boarding)
We provide scheduled airport pick-ups. For those coming in a day earlier, we provide luggage pick-up at downtown hotels. Your vacation begins with a tour of the Alaska State Museum. Please meet our Naturalist at 395 Whittier St., Juneau at 2:00pm for Fantasy Cruise-Check-in and tour. Boarding after check-in and tour of Museum, meet your crew and depart for our evening wilderness anchorage. (Cocktails, Dinner)
Day 2 - Admiralty Island
This morning, we find a quiet bay to kayaking, Enjoying the sights of marine mammals and sea birds. For those of you, who don’t kayak; join our naturalist in our skiff for nature and wildlife. Later today we plan to visit “the Grotto”, a very unique sight and experience in Basket Bay. Maybe we’ll hike a bit or enjoy a campfire. We anchor in a quiet bay tonight!
Day 3 - Tenekee Springs, AK
We cruise through Chatham Strait as we make our way to Tenakee Springs. This wonderful village of only 98 homes gives us the opportunity to see how a quaint, Alaskan town lives. Visit the bakery and 1899 mercantile. Local artist wares are available for sale in this unique setting. We are the only small ship to visit this Alaskan village! This afternoon watch for whales as we cruise to our evening anchorage.
Day 4 - Chatham Strait - Wilderness Bays
This morning we will explore Chatham Strait, anchor this afternoon for some kayaking or an Interpretive walk with our Naturalist. Watch for Brown Bears which frequent this area. These are beautiful and secluded bays on Chicagoff Island. Later we cruise during dinner to the Captain’s anchorage of choice.
Day 5 - Sea Lion haul out & Baird Glacier
Depending on wildlife and weather, your Captain will plan today’s route. We start our day with a small boat ride to see the large gathering of our local favorites, Stellar Sea Lions. Get close up and personal with these boisterous mammals. Then, weather permitting; we stop by Thomas Bay for a little beach walk and Glacier viewing, Baird Glacier-up close. Board our small boat. Back on board as we head to port in the Scandinavian fishing village of Petersburg, AK.
Day 6 - Petersburg, AK & Frederick Sound
This morning we enjoy a Muskeg walk and scenic stroll overlooking Frederick Sound and Devil’s Thumb. We visit the local museum and small locally owned shops. This afternoon we set sail for Stephens Passage. Weather permitting, we visit Five Fingers lighthouse, continuing to our evening anchorage in Holkam Bay. Five Fingers lighthouse is occupied by our favorite marine Biologist, Fred Sharp. This is Whale country-we will see Humpbacks Here and maybe Orca.
Day 7/8 - Dawes Glacier & Majestic Ford’s Terror
Today we visit beautiful Endicott Arm and view magnificent Dawes Glacier from the comfort of our vessel. Watch for harbor seals that rest on the ice. Later today, we enter a magical place -Fords Terror, named after an early mariner, unfamiliar to the lively Alaska waters. This region is some of the most scenic in the Tongass national forest. We will enjoy a full day in Ford’s Terror, beginning the day with brunch, then taking Skiff rides with our naturalist, or kayaking to watch nature at its best. Be among a handful on the planet to visit this Majestic Fjord for 24 hours. It’s one of the most majestic hidden Fjords in South East, AK. Later this evening we dock in Juneau, AK. Back to where we began!
Day 9 - Juneau, disembark
Enjoy breakfast onboard, trade emails, say farewell to your crew and new friends. Shuttles provided to airport/ hotels.
Please note, all guests must disembark by 10:00am. (Breakfast)
