Hinterlands Cruise - Petersburg, AK to Petersburg, AK
This itinerary is for the Hinterlands Cruise
(Unless listed, each day’s meals include: Breakfast, lunch, cocktails, dinner)
Day 1 - Petersburg, AK
Boarding Ship begins at 12:00 PM. Leisurely lunch, meet your crew, freshen up. At 2:00 our Naturalist leads a walk through town and up to the Muskeg Walk. Visit the small museum, time to shop a bit, then back aboard for our departure. We cruise North in Frederick Sound for a few hours this evening. Anchor in a peaceful bay. PLEASE NOTE, THERE IS NO BOARDING PRIOR TO 12:00 PM
Day 2 - Kake, AK
We’re underway during breakfast. We’re cruising this morning to a large Sea Lion Haul-out area. See 100’s of these massive mammals. Our naturalist and small boats get you in to see and hear them. Later this afternoon we visit the native community of Kake, AK. Enjoy a quiet bay this evening-We’re in Red Bluff Bay.
Day 3 - Chatham Strait - Wilderness Bays
This morning we will explore Chatham Strait. We anchor in one of many beautiful bays on Baranoff Island for some kayaking and take an Interpretive walk with our Naturalist. Get up close to the large waterfall. Keep an eye out for Humpback Whales. Later we cruise during dinner to our anchorage.
Day 4 - Tenekee Springs, AK
As we cruise out of Chatham Strait, we make our way to Tenekee Springs. This wonderful village invites the Island Spirit for a visit. It gives us the opportunity to see how a quaint Alaskan town of about 100 homes. Visit the bakery, the mercantile, and see the local art. This afternoon we watch for whales as we cruise to Hoonah, AK. If we are able to port early enough, we will enjoy an evening campfire and enjoy the native charm.
Day 5 - Hoonah, AK
After Breakfast we’re off for a true Native experience. Visit the Icy Strait Point “Historic Salmon Cannery”. Enjoy a “Tlingit” cultural experience arranged for your education and entertainment. We are back aboard for a visit to town or whale watching and head for the state capitol of Juneau, AK.
You may wish to add-on the thrilling ride on the longest US Zip line. Can be purchased onboard
Day 6 - Juneau, Alaska’s Capitol
Join our naturalist for a morning visit to the Capitol buildings and the local State Museum. You can also visit the shopping area for an Alaskan memento, as it is the only tourist trap we visit. We depart at 2 PM for Glacier territory
You may wish to add-on one of the many tours in Juneau. Please speak to our naturalist to assist you.
Day 7 - Dawes Glacier
Today we will visit the beautiful Endicott Arm and get a good look at the Dawes Glacier, from our own vessel. Watch for the seals that rest on the ice. Later today, we enter a magical place -Fords Terror, which was named after an early mariner, unfamiliar to the lively Alaska waters. Glacier ice flows and bears snack on the beach.
Day 8- Majestic Ford’s Terror
This region is some of the most scenic in the Tongass national forest. We will enjoy a full day in Ford’s Terror, beginning the day with brunch, then taking Skiff rides with our naturalist, or kayaking to watch nature at its best. Be among a handful on the planet to visit this Majestic Fjord, one of the most majestic hidden Fjords.
Day 9- Petersburg, AK
This morning you will enjoy your final breakfast aboard the Island Spirit at 8:30 AM. Followed by transfers to hotels or airport. (Please note, we are in port the evening before departures to accommodate early flights. Please note, all guests are required to disembark by 12:00 PM. so we may ready the vessel for our next cruise).
