At Small Alaska Ship, your comfort is our number one priority, and we go out of our way to ensure you have a most enjoyable and memorable vacation experience.
The Island Spirit is a three-deck U.S. Coast Guard licensed and inspected passenger vessel.
Originally built in 1978 as an oil field supply vessel, she is all-aluminum and heavily constructed. The vessel was completely rebuilt and re-powered in 2002 with Caterpillar marine engines. We can carry up to 32 passengers overnight in 17 comfortable staterooms. Each room has a private bath and shower, as well as a minimum of one large opening window for wonderful views and fresh air ventilation. There are two single cabins, five queen cabins, and 10 Twin cabins. Please note, this coast guard inspected vessel is not accessible for handicapped cruisers.
There are two staircases for access between decks. The stairs are brightly lit and are easy to navigate with handrails. Although we cruise in primarily protected waterways, the Island Spirit has been upgraded to 2010 USCG vessel standards. The vessel utilizes fin stabilizers and a reshaped hull for extra stability and cruising comfort.
At Small Alaska Ship, your comfort is our number one priority, and we go out of our way to ensure you have the most enjoyable and memorable vacation experience!
We offer three types of staterooms on our ship: 2 Single Cabins, 10 Twin bed Cabins or 5 Queen bedded Cabins. There are two twin cabins located on the upper deck, for those who have difficulty with stairs. Each room has a private toilet and shower, as well as a minimum of one large opening window for wonderful views and fresh air ventilation. Every cabin has a small dresser and some hanging space for your clothing.
Due to the intimate nature of our "small ship," we limit our use of room keys for staterooms. All rooms have a lock for evening privacy. All rooms are interior walkways. There is no access to the vessel by non-guests. You can also check any valuables into the Captain's safe and receive a receipt.
We might have a small ship. But we have the largest outside deck areas of any small ship! The front bow area, the third floor upper deck with 360 degree viewing, our back deck behind the lounge, and our guest room back deck.
Dining Room & Lounge Areas
The dining area hosts our 32 guests for a full service breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. It is a nice area for relaxing during the day while we are cruising. We also host a brunch once during each cruise and a Captain’s Dinner (Casual Attire, of course). During the day the lounge serves as an comfortable area for relaxing, as we cruise, some guests like to play games, make puzzles, read books (that we have aboard) and chat.
